No Greater Love

Luke 2:10-12

10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

During the holidays one of the ways we show love to one another is by giving gifts. It is prioritized so much that we often forget the greatest gift of all, Christ. The birth of Christ was not a random event that happened by chance but it was ordained from the very beginning of time. It was God’s plan that Christ would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), through the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14). Christ left His glory and willingly came down a man so that He would give salvation to mankind through His righteous life and death. Jesus Christ born displays the love of God but it was not until He fulfilled His ultimate promise through the cross that love was greatest displayed.

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
— Micah 5:2
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
— Isaiah 7:14

In Verse 11 we read the greatest news of all time. He is the deliverer, the rescuer, from our sin. There is no one else. There will be no one else.

Oh, what a love to know that the all mighty and sovereign God looked upon us, the wretched and sinful of the Earth, and decided the most perfect savior would come forth to rescue us. He would be born to die, He would come to save His people from sin. There is no greater love known than what was displayed upon the cross.
