Our Great Joy

Luke 2:10-11

10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord

We have great joy today for God has come to us. The Creator, the one who has always been, majestic and sovereign over every living thing, the I AM, the all powerful, all knowing, all present dwelt within us.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
— John‬ ‭1:14‬
He emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
— Philippians 2:7

God in His faithfulness, humbled himself, taking a form of a servant and came to us full of grace and truth. He kept the promise, fulfilled the prophesies, came to save those which were lost. Our human minds cannot completely comprehend this act of love. We are overwhelmed with great joy that God is with us. He came to reconcile us to himself. This is how apostle Paul describes our state before regeneration.

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience
— Ephesians‬ ‭2:1-2

This was our state: hopeless. This is the bad news of Christmas - we are sinners. In our sinful state we were blind, in complete darkness, we didn’t even know what light is. But praise be to God that in his loving-kindness he made us alive in Christ. We have joy today and forever because we have a Savior, Christ the Lord. May we bring him glory and honor for being the light of the world and the reason today we have joy in our hearts.
