Celebrating the Christmas Season
Philippians 2:5-11
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equally with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Christmas is often misrepresented with things such as Santa Claus, presents, trees, decorations, and Christmas lights. However, this is a time where we need to reflect and remember the real gift that was given to us, Jesus Christ and his birth. For thousands of years, mankind waited for the coming of Christ. The Bible is full of scripture pointing to the One who would save mankind from their sins. In Isaiah 9, His coming is described as an infant that would grow and establish a kingdom of righteousness. When we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating the fulfillment of this prophecy that God came to be with us which should not be overthrown by worldly concepts. Most importantly, His birth is significant because of His death since He gifted us salvation. On Calvary, Christ paid the price and overcame death so that we could have victory over sin and condemnation. This wasn’t just another birth but the beginning of God’s redemptive plan for humanity. The busyness of the Christmas season can cause time to fly by but we must make sure to keep the focused perspective. Choose reverence and honor by glorifying the One who gave it all. Without his birth, salvation wouldn’t have been possible. Jesus coming to Earth that night changed everything, and it is a moment we should celebrate with all our hearts.
