Before the missions conference and before I was moved by God's words in Pastor Ryan's speeches, it really was encouraging to discuss the whole family issue and the struggles I've endured for too many years with family. Thanks, it really did help. It was a small step to the transformation of this weekend:
This weekend was life-changing. And I mean that quite literally as in "changing one's life." It was a profound weekend that served as a powerful motivation for me to alter quite a number of aspects and circumstances in my life. I've finally committed to taking action in respecting, obeying, and honoring my father and mother--the 5th commandment. It may be awkward, embarrassing, or weird, but at least I won't be acting upon the falsehood of a hypocrite who eagerly wishes to go on abroad missions and participate passionately in church and yet is in deep roots of disrespect, contempt, and disobedience to her parents at home.
His message, as I told you before, electrocuted me (and undeniably everyone else) with shocking truth. I liked (even though I was slapped in the face with hurtful truth) when Pastor Ryan highlighted the irony in having passionate, eager teens willing to go on missions trips but who have continuous family struggles at home. It's hypocrisy. We cannot expect to go reveal our "holy" characters before strangers and telling them about God and what is the right way to live and yet we ourselves do not see the log that is in our own eyes--disobeying our parents, dishonouring our family members, etc.
